Rest today. Reflect deeply. Tomorrow, chase your labor of love
Today, we rest.
Labor Day is a reminder to pause, to breathe, and to reflect on the work we choose to give our lives to. And for those of us chasing the hockey dream… it’s never just a game.
If you’ve committed to this journey, then you already know:
This isn’t a hobby.
This isn’t something you “kind of” do.
This is a labor of love.
Because nobody puts in the endless hours, the early mornings, the bruises, the pain, and the sacrifice unless there’s something bigger pulling at their heart. And if you’ve found that thing — that fire inside you that drives you back to the rink, day after day — you’re already blessed.
Because most people never find it.
I’ll be honest with you: now that my hockey days are behind me, I’m still searching for my next labor of love. I’ve got hobbies, passions, projects — even careers I enjoy — but I’m still waiting for that one thing that consumes me again.
And maybe that’s the gift of days like today: a chance to slow down and ask ourselves the hard questions.
What do we really want to give our short time on this earth to?
What are we willing to sacrifice for?
What’s worth all of us — our time, our energy, our heart?
If hockey is that thing for you, I’ll tell you the secret:
Get a little better every single day.
Move one inch closer to your dream today.
Then again tomorrow.
And again the next day.
Do that long enough, and something powerful happens:
The inches turn into miles.
The miles turn into breakthroughs.
And one day, you wake up and realize you’re living the dream you used to only imagine.
That’s how I made it to the NHL.
And the older I get, the more I realize that same formula applies to everything in life.
So today, take your rest.
Recharge. Reflect.
And when tomorrow comes, be ready to give your heart to the work that matters most — your labor of love.
Because in the end, it’s not the trophies or the stats that define us…
…it’s the pursuit itself.
