I’ll never forget it...
My freshman year at UMass Lowell.
40% scholarship.
Big dreams.
And for the first five or six games?
I was a healthy scratch.
Sat in the stands.
Watched my teammates from behind the glass.
Felt like the smallest guy in the building.
I could’ve folded.
Could’ve blamed the coach.
Could’ve checked out mentally and coasted through the season.
But something broke open inside me.
A decision was made that night:
From this point forward — I’m giving everything I’ve got. Every shift. Every rep. Every moment.
Not just in games, but in practices.
Not just when the lights are on, but when no one’s watching.
I realized I couldn’t control the coach.
Couldn’t control the depth chart.
Couldn’t control what a scout thought about me.
But I could control my intensity.
I could control my effort.
And that became my edge.
Four years later…
I graduated as team captain, leading scorer, and MVP.
And signed an NHL deal with the Ottawa Senators.
But none of that happens without that one decision —
The decision to go all in.
All of me. All the time.
So here’s my challenge to you:
Whether you’re gearing up for a big game…
Or ripping shots in the driveway…
Bring your full self.
Because what you put in now?
It adds up.
And years from now, you might just look back and say —
That was the moment everything changed.
Keep training.
Keep dreaming.
Stay savage.
Here's your training for today: go hit the driveway and give it everything you have. Stickhandle like it matters. Keep your head up like it matters. Toe drag like it matters. Rip pucks like it matters. Visualize like it matters. At some point while you're out there, make the decision inside your mind and your heart, that you are going to BRING IT...ALL OF YOU...today and everyday moving forward.
