Success is built on what you do when no one’s watching.
When I finally figured it out — how to be a good pro —
I realized it didn’t come down to talent.
It came down to non-negotiables.
I gave myself 5 things I would do every single day — no matter how I felt, no matter what was going on.
These five things?
They became my foundation.
My edge.
My separation from the pack.
Here were my Power 5:
Drink a gallon of water
Foam roll every night before bed
Dynamic warmup and stretch before and after every session
Mental reset — review goals, visualize success
Go the extra mile — when everyone else stopped, I kept going
For me, that “extra mile” looked like bag skates or bonus plyos after a long session — when my legs were toast and my mind said “you’re good.”
That’s where the gains really happened.
That’s where I separated from the crowd.
Everyone wants the dream.
But few will build the daily rhythm to catch it.
So here’s your challenge:
What’s your Power 5?
Not just in hockey —
but in life.
Maybe it’s waking up early.
Maybe it’s putting your phone down.
Maybe it’s journaling, praying, hydrating, stretching, reading, eating clean.
Whatever it is — name it.
Own it.
Do it every single day.
You don’t need 500 changes.
Just 5 that matter.
Stack those wins.
Build your rhythm.
Watch the breakthrough come.
Let’s go.
