The Price Most Players Won’t Pay... Are You?

The Price Most Players Won’t Pay... Are You?

Are you willing to?
The Price of Hockey Success

Some aren’t willing to pay it.
Some are.

Which one are you?

Because let’s get something straight…

Success in hockey isn’t bought with money.

It’s bought with sweat.
With tears.
With bruises.
With sacrifice.
With focus when nobody’s watching.

And I’ll tell you this from experience…

I didn’t pay the price when it mattered most.

When I turned pro, I trained all summer for my first NHL training camp with the Ottawa Senators.

I thought I was ready.

But I showed up a little out of shape.
A little nervous.
A little overwhelmed.

And “a little off” at that level?

That’s everything.

During that summer, I was living in Lowell, training during the week…

But on the weekends?

I was in the bars.
Acting like I’d already made it.

The gains I made Monday through Friday…
I erased Friday through Sunday.

And when my moment came—

I wasn’t ready.

Why?

Because I didn’t pay the full price.

So what does paying the price actually look like?

It looks like doing what others won’t.

While everyone else is out… you’re recovering.
You’re training.
You’re stretching.
You’re fueling your body the right way.

You’re watching film.
You’re studying the game.
You’re getting better...even when nobody’s clapping for you.

That’s the difference.

When I got cut from camp in 2006 and sent down to Binghamton…

That wasn’t bad luck.

That was the bill coming due.

For every shortcut.
For every distraction.
For every moment I chose comfort over commitment.

So now I’ll ask you...

Are you willing to pay the price?

Not your teammate.
Not your parents.
Not your coach.

You.

What needs to go?

What needs to start?

Because this path?

It’s yours.

And a lot of players fall short not because they aren’t talented…

But because they weren’t willing to pay.

Start today.

Not tomorrow.
Not next season.

Today.

Grab your dream…
and don’t let go.
